Description
Masseria LA MAESTA' is located in an ancient estate practicing traditional "AgriCulture" while respecting time-honored agricultural techniques. Dating back to the sixteenth century, nestled in the lush countryside of Salento, between Gallipoli and Sannicola, just five minutes from the sun-soaked Salentine beaches. The name "Maestà," certified by documents from the State Archive, derives from the fact that since the end of the sixteenth century, the area has been owned by the royal house of the Viceroyalty of Naples, so much so that in 1833 it was visited by King Ferdinand II of Bourbon. For several decades, straddling the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it was inhabited by the cloistered Carmelite nuns of Santa Teresa d'Avila, who has always been the Patron Saint of the area and to whom the ancient chapel open for worship is dedicated.
Masseria la MAESTA' is an enchanting and tranquil place where THE LAND IS LIFE! Unchanged over time, it is just a stone's throw from the vibrant nightlife of Gallipoli, Otranto, and Lecce. Furnished with antique family furniture, the property has undergone restorations under the supervision of the cultural heritage authority, eager to revive the Masseria and restore it to its former glory, welcoming guests amid history and nature!
